Social responsibility is everyone’s duty: producers, processing companies and consumers

Agricultor Cayena

In Hugo Restrepo y Cía. We understand social responsibility as a combination of sustainable practices with regards to the environment and the farmers, as well the viability of life in the countryside for young people.

A responsible approach to agriculture prioritizes the preservation of natural resources by promoting practices such as crop rotation and the responsible use of pesticides and fertilizers. Sustainable agriculture not only reduces environmental damage, but also improves the long-term viability of agricultural operations. By nourishing soil, conserving water and protecting biodiversity, farmers contribute to a healthier planet for future generations.

For us, a responsible approach also seeks to favor and protect small-scale farmers, who make up a significant part of the global agricultural community, and often face challenges in accessing markets and receiving fair compensation for their products. At Hugo Restrepo y Cía, initiatives are developed that empower small farmers; they are guaranteed the purchase of 100% of their product at a pre-established fair price that is not subject to the fluctuations of the market price.

Social responsibility in agriculture encompasses a wide range of actions and values, all aimed at creating a more sustainable, equitable and responsible food system. As global challenges such as climate change, food insecurity and ethical concerns continue to shape the agricultural landscape, the need for responsible agricultural practices becomes increasingly evident.

By prioritizing sustainability, promoting fair trade, ensuring the well-being of farmworkers, conserving biodiversity, mitigating climate change and engaging with communities, agriculture can become a powerful force for positive change. It is the responsibility of all stakeholders, from farmers and consumers to policymakers and businesses, to embrace and promote social responsibility in agriculture. Only through collective effort can we nourish the roots of society and cultivate a more just and sustainable future for all.

If you are a food producer or processing company, do you know where your supply come from? Do you know the conditions under which these supplies were purchased? Is there a fair agreement with the farmer? Is there compliance of those agreements with the farmer? Is there environmental protection?

As producers of ingredients for the large industry we invite all our current and future buyers to be part of the change in purchasing practices. Learn about our process and find the difference with indiscriminate marketers who do not care about their farmers or the environment.

In Hugo Restrepo y Cía. We have a clear sustainability policy and an agricultural purchasing policy focused on the well-being of the farmer. We work together for the best possible harvest and we fulfill our contractual commitments.
